Golden Pin Design Award 2018 Judging is Complete After 10-Hour Marathon Final Selection
The Golden Pin Design Award 2018 Final Selection judging took place at the Multi-Showcase Hall in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. The nine domestic and international design experts who judged the Final Selection include Ad van Berlo (Founder of VanBerlo), Kashiwa Sato (Creative Director at SAMURAI Inc.), Edmond Bakos (Managing Director at CHAMPALIMAUD Design), Chris Lee (Founder and Creative Director of Asylum), Lin Xiao-Yi (Art Director at atom no color), KUAN CHENG-NENG (Honorary Chair Professor at Department of Industrial Design, Shih-Chien University), Tong K.M. Chang (Regional Advisor at World Design Organization (WDO)), Tieh-chih Chang (Chief Editor at Fountain), and Shikuan Chen (Senior Vice President at Compal Electronics, Inc.). From the 697 Design Mark winners, together they discussed and selected the Best Design winners, and the results will be announced at the Grand Ceremony on November 29.
During a full-day marathon selection, the nine domestic and international experts reviewed the designs one-by-one, conducted multiple rounds of discussions, and finally selected the Best Design winners. Jury member Kashiwa Sato, said that by participating in the Golden Pin Design Award, this is the first time he has been exposed to so many Taiwanese design works. He found the experience very fresh and interesting. While judging, he mostly values the concept behind the design, and is attracted to those that can clearly communicate a message in an instant.
This year, the organizers received nearly 3,000 entries from all around the globe, of which 1,991 pass through Preliminary judging into the Secondary Selection. From late August to early September, four Secondary Selection judging events were held in Shenzhen, Shijiazhuang, Shanghai, and Taipei. A total of 697 entries from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, Poland, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Macau won the Design Mark and made it into the Final Selection.
