Since its inception in 1982, Young Designers' Exhibition (YODEX), world's largest joint exhibition that features mainly works by students and emerging talents. The exhibition featured 3,500 works and saw participation by over 9,000 young designers from over 130 departments from 64 domestic institutes, and renowned design institutes from the U.K., U.S., Canada, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. In addition to the exhibits, the exhibition is also an important platform for interaction between the industry and academia, which helps businesses and design firms to discover outstanding design talents, facilitating cooperation between the industry and academia, enhancing economic value of creative industry, and further integrating the creative energy of students and the industry. The Ministry of Economic Affairs launched the "Young Designers Academia and Industry Cooperation Graduation Project" in 2014, inviting ten established companies to set topics based on own field of expertise or available technical support and resources, providing students an opportunity to learn and cooperate with the companies. The achievements of the project are also showcased at the exhibition. Furthermore, to encourage creative works by students, the "Young Pin Design Award" is also held during the exhibition period, which includes seven categories: product design, craft design, packaging design, visual communications design, digital multimedia design, spatial design, and fashion design, aiming to nurture outstanding design talent needed for the development of the industry through the organization of the exhibition.
YODEX features a wide range of exhibits, including visual communications design, product design, interior design, multimedia animation, fashion, and architecture. Over the four-day exhibition, diverse and rich contents have garnered recognition and appraisal by international design communities. In 2007,
YODEX was chosen as one of the series of events celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), which enabled YODEX to leap into the ranks of international exhibitions such as Salone Internazionale del Mobile, Milano, and break into the global scene, becoming the world's largest exchange platform for student designers and creative talents, as well as the best stage for domestic emerging stars to showcase their works in front of the world.
